Washington Internet Daily - NewsWashington Internet Daily AllofMP3 said it was weighing legal action against Visa for blocking transactions to the cut-rate Russian download store (WID Oct 19 p9). MasterCard is also blocking transactions, parent Mediaservices said, and would also be considered for legal action. New Russian copyright laws -- cited by Visa in its revocation of business with AllofMP3 -- "do not require AllofMP3 to alter its business model," a statement said: "The new copyright laws do not prevent the online sale of music." It called Visa and MasterCard actions "arbitrary, capricious and discriminatory" because they "lack the authority to adjudicate the legality" of AllofMP3's business. The company said AllofMP3 had never been found guilty of violation of any law, but omitted that U.K. court has given the green light for U.K. labels to sue locally. |
